What kinds of construction are you involved with?

Grant Herzog: Our C1 team has more than 30 years of experience in all aspects of resort construction, commercial and residential including new build, remodels and service work.

How has construction changed in the last two-three years, both in terms of type of projects and the approach for building them?

GH: We feel there is more emphasis on detailed design and value as opposed to sheer size.
Bryan Johnson: Also, advancements in technology and construction knowledge have allowed projects to be built more elaborately with less moving parts allowing for a more reliable end product.

Is there a particular project that you were involved with of which you are most proud?

GH: Recently, we completed a double condo remodel at the base of Vail Mountain. This premium space was very small requiring great design and efficiency. Our clients have a very large family and needed to maximize their space, but keep the luxury and elegance of a larger home. It was a lot of work but worth it, it turned out beautifully.

Do you have any certifcation or specialties?

BJ: We have LEED accredited project managers specializing in building design and construction. All field staff is OSHA certified. We also hold licenses in several other states.

What part of a project is most satisfying?

GH: Turning over a final product to a happy client, on time and under budget.

What makes building in this area unique?

BJ: The expectations of our clients, complexity of the construction, the mountain terrain and weather.

If you weren’t in the field you are, what would you be doing?

BJ: I’d be involved in some sort of computer technology or a professional poker player.

What is likely to play on your iPod?

BJ: Eminem or Of Monsters and Men
GH: Social Distortion or The Lumineers

What do you enjoy most about living and working where you do?

GH: Being able to participate in our community activities anytime we want. I can ski on my lunch break at one of the world’s best ski resorts or ride my bike after work on world class trails.
