What makes your showroom unique?
First off, the unique character of our showroom adds to the experience when you visit us. The high exposed barrel roof ceiling is sure to catch your eye. When we purchased the building, we kept many of the original elements along with incorporating kitchen and bath displays that makes the customer feel like they are in their own homes. We are constantly updating with the latest and greatest.
What part of the project is most satisfying?
Building a home can be a stressful process with overwhelming choices. When we finish a project, we take the greatest joy in knowing our customer is finally enjoying the living spaces we helped create.
Please describe your process
We like to work with builders and designers as well as homeowners in the early phases of the project. Being involved early gives us the opportunity to offer suggestions as well as our expertise to help find the best and must suitable products for the project; this helps to ensure that everyone is happy with the end result.
What do you enjoy the most about our business?
The thing I like the most about the business is relationship building. I want our customers to feel important and to know we value their business and that we don’t take them for granted. I want to know about them personally, their family, the things they like to do. It makes me feel invested with each one of them.
What is the most poorly understood aspect of your business?
The most common misconception about Mountain Land Design is that we are strictly a high-end showroom. In reality, we are a company that takes pride in high-end customer service by offering several products in all price points. We also have a Clearance Center at our Salt Lake Showroom that is stocked full with name-brand sale items. This enables us to accommodate for any budget.
What is the most exciting new product or development in your field?
Over the years we have brought on several great brands here at Mountain Land Design including being the exclusive dealer of Waterworks, a high-end plumbing and tile line. We partnered with Sub-Zero and Wolf to incorporate a 2,000 square foot “Living Kitchen” in our showroom which displays a wide array of the line.
What Projects are you excited about right now?
It’s exciting to see the economy and new construction on the rise again. We are currently involved on the North Silver Lake Lodge in Deer Valley. It is exciting to be working on a project with high-end finishes like Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Waterworks. This project is the essence of Park City living.
How did you start here?
Growing up I always thought I would play football, but life has a way of creating unusual opportunities. I started delivering appliances for a local distributor. Out on the job sites, I was introduced to many contractors and I started with the “relationship building” that I find the most rewarding about my work. This led to a sales position, which ultimately led to the introduction to Mountain Land Design. I bought in as a partner and ultimately became sole owner in 1997.
Do you have a favorite non-profit or community group that you are involved in?
About 5 years ago I was introduced to the Assistance League of Salt Lake City. A non-profit organization that has many worthy projects, it is mostly known for the program “Operation School Bell.” This program works with schools that have low-income families to each child in need a bag that includes a new coat, jeans, two shirts, sweatshirt, socks, underwear, toothbrush and toothpaste. Sometimes, these clothes are the only “new clothes” these children will get. Most of the funds for this program come from the thrift store owned by the Assistance League. Our employees volunteer to help bag and put together the packages to be delivered to the schools. We wanted to do more, so we now host an annual “Food and Wine Tasting Event” where 100% of the proceeds are donated to the Assistance League. Participation in the event has more than doubled since we started.
Mountain Land Design started as a small boutique showroom in Park City supplying major appliances, decorative plumbing, and hardware fixtures to contractors and builders. Since those humble beginnings in 1987, Mountain Land Design has become a leader and one of the largest suppliers in Provo, Park City, and Salt Lake City with state-of-the-art showrooms and unbeatable customer service. Dan Devenport, owner, has been with Mountain Land for many years and became full owner in 1997.
