Design Creates Inspired Surroundings Partner Website

“That which we elect to surround ourselves with becomes a museum of the soul and the archive of our experience.” -Thomas Jefferson

For an interior designer, few accolades are as important as those that come directly from their clients. A completed project that reflects its owner’s life, experiences, and style is truly its own reward. By those standards, Debra Browne of Harrison Browne Interior Design, LTD, is among the most successful interior designers in Colorado. As proof, just look at her gorgeous and diverse portfolio and the tall stack of testimonials and thank you letters that accompany it. The awards that she has won from the American Society of Interior Designers, of which she is a professional member, validate her experience and expertise.

As the principal of Harrison Browne Interior Design LTD., located in the Aspen Valley, Debra has been privileged to work with exceptional clients from around the world. She is a Colorado native, which she believes lends integrity to her projects throughout the Rocky Mountains. With projects ranging from a compact condo remodel to a 12.5 million- dollar residence, no two installations are alike, creating excitement and diversity in her work. Her commercial portfolio includes a national jewelry store chain, several restaurants, retail projects, galleries, and medical offices.

Debra believes that the difference between the titles interior decorator and interior designer lies firmly in professional education and experience, and she actively works to promote her career’s professionalism. She spoke on design business practices at NEOCON at the Chicago Merchandise Mart in 2007, 2005, and 2002, and the national ASID convention, INTERIORS 08.

Harrison Browne specializes in environmentally conscious designs, as exemplified in the remodel of a downtown Aspen residence. Featured as Hidden Escape on her web site, this home also met the same family-friendly requirements. Transformed from a rustic mountain house to a sleek contemporary residence, she opened the space again by removing an over-scaled fireplace and replacing it with an EcoSmart linear burner on a floating cement shelf (pictured above.) “The clients loved the home as it reflected their personalities, and in fact, the husband actually cried tears of joy when he saw the bunkroom. It was his dream to have a house where their children and guests could stay and play in the mountains they love,” recalls Debra.

Designs differ as radically as Debra’s clients. In the same year as the contemporary remodel was finished, Debra also completed a Victorian at Papke Park in Aspen. Working on two such diverse projects during the same year was exciting and kept Debra’s team fresh as they researched innovative products for each home.

The Victorian remodel (pictured at left) highlights Debra’s skill in creating a warm, fresh and friendly home, while staying true to the character of the exterior. Light is the critical design element. By removing the walls between the kitchen, dining room and living room, the light flows and opens the home to accommodate family functions. The client has said that she loves this home more than her primary residence!

The award-winning home Edgewater showcases Debra’s ability to clearly communicate the vision of the client through drawings and specifications. The home showcases the river throughout the design with blues and browns, colors taken from the water and the site repeated throughout (pictured above and inset.) Working with the builders and developer, kitchen cabinets were drawn in AutoCAD along with all the tile details. The specified materials exemplified the classic contemporary design of the home without being intimidating, thus creating a home that everyone falls in love with. It won the 2008 ASID award for Best Vacation Residence and the Judges’ Award of Merit.

Holidays are always happy in the ski-in ski-out Top of Mill home (pictured at left.) The rich mountain colors of green and brown complement the woodwork and the furnishings. Custom light fixtures illuminate the space and warm the winter evenings. Sophisticated but not too stuffy, this home welcomes guests through out the year.

With the enormous diversity of work, Debra and her staff of trained professionals are clearly ready for any design challenge, and invite you to create your vision with them.
