Always Something Special

The Showroom Remodel of Wright’s Furniture

by Cassidy Mantor

Wright’s Furniture is a third-generation family-owned and -operated business specializing in furniture and home accessories. They have a strong sense of tradition and connection to the community and have grown over the years by prioritizing professionalism and a commitment to their team. Wright’s opened in Whitefish in 1976 and now has a staff of 25-30 employees, including many long-term team members who have been with the company for 15-30 years.

Alana Wright shares, “We are constantly reminded of how strong our team is and how supportive the community is. We are fortunate that our furniture and design business has expanded along with the overall growth in our area. Our team shows dedication to the company, to our customers, and to their teammates, and has the tenacity and creativity to succeed in a changing business climate.”

Wright’s slogan is “Always Something Special.” Whether that is a piece of furniture or a broader design decision that maximizes views, the company focuses on providing value in as many ways as possible through a variety of products and styles, quality customer service, professionalism, and uniqueness of displays and experiences in the showroom. Their special blend of design shop and furniture retail store carries a large assortment of rare items not found elsewhere in the Flathead Valley.

“We are proud to be part of this community and very much understand the value of shopping locally,” Alana says. “My husband and I both coach our children’s sports leagues and I volunteer in their classrooms. Many of our employees support the schools, sports, and community in similar ways. This place is our home and Wright’s proudly donates to many charity events and often sponsors fundraising events to strengthen the community.”

The New Showroom

Having been in business for almost 50 years, Wright’s recently remodeled their showroom to reflect the high level of service, product quality, and design style that customers can expect when working together. The new look is modern yet tasteful and timeless. Although they added virtual shopping options during the pandemic, their brick-and-mortar flagship location had been their primary home since 1979 and it was ready for an upgrade. In addition to floor sets and galleries one would expect in a traditional furniture store, Wright’s new showroom has three different zones and also offers a sleep center, an accessory area, and two warehouses. “It’s big!” Alana laughs.

“We created a 30-foot-high open floor plan with surrounding floor-to-ceiling windows that bring in an enormous amount of natural light.”

Accordingly, the showroom remodel began with tearing down the front 20 feet of the building and designing a new facade as well as reconfiguring a new entryway and front interior, as well as functional updates to the design center and offices. They opened up the existing floor plan by adding height. Alana explains, “We created a 30-foot-high open floor plan with surrounding floor-to-ceiling windows that bring in an enormous amount of natural light. The windows brighten the entire showroom, not to mention giving us a beautiful clear view of Whitefish Mountain to the north.” The new height also allows Wright’s to showcase a new assortment of overhead lighting chandeliers and create a 40-foot art display wall that features fine art, prints, and wall accessories.

The new showroom is grand and inspiring. Furniture settings feature area rugs, occasional tables, lamps, decorative throw pillows, blankets, and accessories. “We work hard to continuously have the largest stock of unique furniture designs and home accessories in a wide variety of styles so that when you walk in, our slogan of ‘Always something special’ is apparent,” Alana says. Special items include locally-made, one–of-a-kind live edge wood coffee, end, and dining tables, Tibetan pillows, throws, and furniture in a variety of colors, cowhide-covered pillows, chairs, and ottomans, rustic home decor and hand-made furniture from reclaimed barnwood and solid hardwoods, taxidermy and skulls, faux and natural floral stems and bowl fillers, modern lighting, bowls, and vases, local artwork, textured ottomans and area rugs, luxury bedding, and handwoven table runners, coasters, and textiles.

Wright’s in-store design center is fueled by its professional sales staff. The center holds thousands of fabric, leather, and finish samples and offers complementary services to assist in custom design projects. Customers can also expect to see the largest inventory of in-stock furniture in the Flathead Valley at Wright’s. It is all available to purchase directly from the showroom, and if a custom fabric, size, finish, or design is desired, the staff will special order it. Once products are selected, Wright’s offers free local delivery and installation to make the process as effortless as possible.

“As the third generation to lead the business after my husband’s grandpa and parents, we continue to look to both generations before us as role models for running a successful small business.”

–Alana Wright, Wright’s Furniture

When walking through the showroom, customers can shop by specific design styles such as mountain modern, rustic, traditional, farmhouse, or mid-century modern. Customers can also shop by specific product types. In the sleep center, the assortment includes mattresses, beds, bedding textiles and pillows. In the reclining gallery, there are approximately 30 in-stock recliner options in different styles, brands, and cover options that are hand-picked from a wider assortment of over 100 recliners located throughout the showroom and warehouse.

Wright’s removed multiple walls during the remodel to create a more open concept and intuitive flow for customers. “The new open floor plan allows for a more comfortable shopping experience as well as more room for exciting product displays, such as our new themed accessory area. Right now, that area has a fun animal hide story of both natural and faux hides – we make sure to carry both options. We have two large racks of cowhides and several shelves showcasing the latest cowhide, faux fur, sheepskin pillows, throws, and accent rugs,” Alana shares. “We also have a wall in the third showroom that features a multitude of bedding options from layering blankets to duvets and comforter sets.”

Alana’s enthusiasm for the new showroom is matched by her appreciation for how Wright’s Furniture continues to grow. “As the third generation to lead the business after my husband’s grandpa and parents, we continue to look to both generations before us as role models for running a successful small business,” she says. Wright’s focuses on providing great customer service, strong leadership and professionalism, and an enjoyable environment for its team and customers. They are a reliable business that is involved in the community and in its customers’ lives. Alana adds, “We strive to uphold and constantly improve what our family built with this business for years to come. We appreciate our team and are committed to our clients and our role in our community.” Indeed, working with Wright’s means there will always be discoveries of special things from furniture and design pieces to the connections that make a place home.
